Jan Luijkenstraat

Amsterdam South

The apartment complex along the Jan Luijkenstraat is a national monument and located next to the famous Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. In this national monument, Van Mourik Bouw has realized four luxury apartments and a boutique. The entire property is equipped with contemporary luxury installations, such as a home automation system and a heat recovery system. The property is also fully equipped with underfloor heating.

Special

The double city villa was designed in 1898 and inhabited by the architect Eduard Cuypers, who also had an office there. In this office, located opposite the Rijksmuseum, the Amsterdam School originated. The Amsterdam School is a style in Dutch architecture that flourished in the period from 1910 to 1930.

Cuypers used an eclectic architectural style. He combined elements from different movements, which is clearly visible in this building. It embodies features such as asymmetry, flower and leaf reliefs in natural stone, stained glass, bay windows, the turret and dormers on different levels.
